Restaurant Retractable Window at City Works of Schaumburg

Overview

Expanding their restaurant empire, Chicago-based Bottleneck Management showcased their eighth City Work’s location in their backyard of Schaumburg, IL. PanoraView Retractable Doors offered the restaurant a seamless transition for their indoor-outdoor space to accommodate the ‘Windy City’s’ unpredictable weather.

The Background Story

On February 25th, 2019, City Works of Schaumburg opened its doors to the public at 1850 E Golf Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60173, making it the first City Works location in Illinois. Located near Woodfield Mall, next to the Hyatt Regency hotel, with easy access to and from I-90/I-290, there is an overwhelming demand for available seating. City Works has quickly become a local hotspot for sports fanatics, foodies, craft beer enthusiasts, and those who can appreciate 5,306 square feet of patio space! Their total capacity accommodates 434 seats across a surface area of over 14,500 square feet, creating the ultimate atmosphere for parties large or small.

Design Challenge

During the warmer seasons, the increase in request for outside accommodations creates the need for versatility during the more inclement season. High traffic areas, such as City Works of Schaumburg, create the added challenge of providing adequate space between tables facilitate a smooth operational flow. With over 30 years of interior design and architectural experience, Tristan Dacre, founding partner at Dacre & Youngquist LLC and Principal Architect for this project, collaborated with Bottleneck Management to optimize the design of City Works. Exceeding expectations, Dacre looked once more to Libart’s distinctive and operable architectural solutions to create the desired ambiance.

Libart’s Solutions

Among the varied options in sizing, in finishes, and the number of panels applied, Dacre preferred three PanoraView GUG-D3 Vertical Retracting Glass Door systems from Libart. For the particular application, upward retraction functioned to provide guests with unobstructed views of the outside while creating the sought-after indoor-outdoor experience. Libart’s fully functional addition produces better ventilation than the alternative, sliding or folding panels, by regulating the amount of fresh air that enters the building. Libart’s PanoraView systems enable the operator to choose the desired panels that remain in the open position, providing custom control of natural ventilation.
